Ottawa, Ontario (March 15, 2013) - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, issued the following statement today:
It is an honour to recognize the launch of the Indspire Institute . The Institute will not only house existing programs for Aboriginal youth but new programs will be introduced focused on Indigenous success in Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Equally important is that the Indspire Institute will join together educators from across the country to share strategies and methodologies which will have a positive impact in the classroom.
There are many outstanding teachers across our country who have had tremendous influences in guiding young minds.
Being able to draw upon the expertise of peers is a positive step forward for educators and students alike and I congratulate Indspire for innovation and leadership in launching this important initiative.
Our Government is a proud partner of Indspire which promotes, supports, and celebrates Aboriginal leadership and achievement. I extend congratulations to the Indigenous Educator Award recipients for contributions to K-12 Indigenous education. As educators, you are leaders and mentors, and serve as examples of what is possible.
