April 9, 2013 - G-8 Foreign Ministers, including Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, will meet in London on April 10 and 11, 2013, to discuss key global issues.
“The G-8 is an important venue to advance our government’s principled foreign policy,” said Baird. “Recognizing that security and prosperity are inextricably linked, I look forward to addressing key areas of concern, which include Iran, Syria and North Korea.”
This year’s meeting will also focus on the prevention of sexual violence in conflict situations, the need to tackle the security challenges that some African countries face, and the strengthening of cyber-security. Ministers will address efforts to strengthen open economies and build on the Deauville Partnership, launched in 2011.
“Canada has played a leadership role in efforts to promote a vital role for women in peace and security, and in ensuring that the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria is investigated,” said Baird. “I will work with my G-8 colleagues to improve lives around the world while also creating opportunities for jobs and growth here at home.”
