Republic of Korea — The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister for La Francophonie, and 36 Canadian Korean War Veterans participated today in a remembrance ceremony at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan, Republic of Korea.
The United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea is the sacred home to the United Nations fallen. Interred are the tombs of 11 out of the 21 nations who participated in the war on behalf of the United Nations. The total number of interred is 2,300 of which 378 are Canadian.
2013 is the Year of the Korean War Veteran. Canada proudly remembers the heroes of the Korean War and their brave fight to uphold freedom, democracy and the rule of law. For more information on Canada’s role in the Korean War, visit veterans.gc.ca.
