CanNor is investing $115,575 in three projects that will support economic growth and small business development in Nunavut. The three projects include:
CanNor funding helped to increase awareness about NBCC financial and credit services across Nunavut communities. NBCC improved its marketing capacity and awareness of its programs and services with the local business community. For example, NBCC developed marketing materials in Nunavut’s four official languages, undertook targeted print and television advertising, and achieved increased attendance at the Kivalliq and Kitikmeot Trade Shows.
Hall Beach is in close proximity to several mineral exploration sites in various stages of development. To ensure the community is prepared to take advantage of possible economic opportunities, the Hamlet of Hall Beach used CanNor funding to complete a five year Community Economic Development plan. The plan outlines the objectives and goals of the community in regards to economic opportunities and challenges, and establishes an implementation plan.
CanNor funding assisted the Kakivak Association to deliver training and support to thirteen Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) in the Baffin Region. The training consisted of a four day program with the aim to increase the CLOs’ knowledge on the Kakivak Association’s programs and services as well as the skills to help members of their home communities to find employment and training opportunities that match their skills and qualifications.
Kakivak Association is a community and economic development organization serving Inuit, by providing business, employment, and training services to enhance the strengths of communities in the Baffin Region.
Investment in these projects was made possible through a number of CanNor’s economic development programming including the Community Economic Opportunities Program (CEOP), the Community Support Services Program (CSSP) and the Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) program. CanNor is responsible for coordinating and delivering Canada's economic development across the North through its contribution programs, and for related policy development and research.
