CanNor is investing $398,002 over two years for two projects that support a strong, diverse and revitalized community in Carcross, Yukon. The two projects include:
This CanNor investment into the Carcross Commons project will enable the CTMC to accomplish key components of their strategic plan to promote and market Carcross as a First Nations tourist destination, while creating local jobs and generating new business opportunities. CanNor funding for the project will go towards decking and landscaping, the purchase of a 40-foot totem pole carved by a local Carcross Tagish First Nation artist, a downtown pavilion, Tlingit style facades as well as for the completion of a marketing and branding strategy to build awareness of Carcross as a Yukon destination of choice.
The Carcross Commons project includes a retail village vibrantly painted in Tlingit-inspired design, featuring the new Carcross Visitor Information Centre, the Skookum Jim House, several restaurants, shops and tour and rental operations and a First Nation carving studio.
Building on previous CanNor funding support for the Montana Mountain trails development, this funding will enable CTMC to set a strategic direction and implementation plan for long-term sustainable economic development on Montana Mountain. The recreational development of Montana Mountain is a key element of Carcross becoming an adventure tourism destination and having a long-term strategic plan in place will help position Carcross as a world class mountain-biking destination.
