OTTAWA—Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will attend the Champions of Mental Health Awards Gala, on Monday, May 6, 2013, at 7 p.m., at the Fairmont Château Laurier (Ballroom), in Ottawa.
“On the occasion of Mental Health Week, let’s come together as Canadians to break down the stigmas associated with this widespread health issue and to stand shoulder to shoulder with those burdened by mental illness,” said Her Excellency. “David and I are adding our voices to all those who already work so hard to make a difference.”
During the Champions of Mental Health Awards Gala dinner, Her Excellency will deliver remarks on the importance of raising awareness about mental health. Later in the evening, Their Excellencies will assist in presenting the award to the first Champion.
The annual Champions of Mental Health Awards recognize individuals and organizations whose outstanding contributions have advanced the mental health agenda in Canada.
