Ham-Nord, Quebec, May 29, 2013 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, announces that the Township of Ham-Nord and the Comité récréatif N.D.H. Inc. have each been granted financial assistance to renovate two community centres in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Arthabaska.
“By funding these renovation and modernization projects, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities,” said Minister Lebel.
“Our government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security,” Minister Lebel concluded.
This assistance, granted in the form of two non-repayable contributions totalling $46,539, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Of that amount, the Township of Ham-Nord received $38,139 for the renovation and modernization of its community centre. The project involves rebuilding the roof and equipping the centre’s multi-purpose hall with a new lighting system, stage, acoustic curtains, sound system and furnishings.
The Comité récréatif de N.D.H Inc., for its part, obtained $8,400 for the construction of an annex on the existing building currently used for recreational activities in the Municipality of Notre-Dame-de-Ham.
The CIIFhas a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
