The Government of Canada is committed to promoting security and stability in the Americas. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on May 22, 2013, between the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Peru, builds on a shared vision of a secure and prosperous hemisphere – one of the key goals of our Strategy for Engagement in the Americas.
Under this agreement, the CCC will work with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Peru to facilitate and improve cooperation for the purchase of services or military and defence equipment.
More specifically, the agreement allows the Ministry of Defense to make requests to the CCC to acquire services or products and allows the CCC to make unsolicited offers to the Ministry of Defense, identifying Canadian suppliers who have the expertise to provide the services or deliver the products.
The MoU, which will enhance defence and security dialogue and strengthen commercial relations between the two countries, will take effect immediately and remain valid over the next three years.
Canada’s defence and security sector employs approximately 109,000 Canadians and generates over $12.6 billion to the Canadian economy, 51% of which comes from international markets.
Created in 1946, the Canadian Commercial Corporation is a federal Crown corporation mandated to assist in the development of trade by helping Canadian exporters access markets abroad and by helping foreign buyers to contract goods and services from Canada. In the last two years, the CCC has worked with more than 210 Canadian suppliers in over 50 different countries.
