Ottawa, Ontario, May 1, 2013—The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Labour Minister, today announced the appointment of Richard Brabander to the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) as a full-time member representing employers for a three-year term, effective May 6, 2013.
“I am pleased that Mr. Brabander has joined the Canada Industrial Relations Board,” said Minister Raitt. “His knowledge and experience in the area of labour relations law will be an asset to the Board.”
Mr. Brabander has over 30 years of experience as a prominent labour and employment lawyer, including previously serving as a partner at Heenan Blaikie and in-house counsel at Bell Canada.
The CIRB is an independent, representational, quasi‑judicial tribunal responsible for the interpretation and administration of Part I (Industrial Relations) and certain provisions of Part II (Occupational Health and Safety) of the Canada Labour Code. The Board’s expertise and composition allow it to deal effectively with the complexities of labour relations issues to determine the underlying causes of disputes, and to facilitate agreement among the parties.
