Ottawa, Ontario, May 1, 2013—The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Labour Minister, today announced the reappointment of Judith MacPherson to the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) as full-time Vice-Chairperson for a three-year term, effective April 25, 2013.
“I am pleased that Ms. MacPherson has agreed to continue serving on the Canada Industrial Relations Board,” said Minister Raitt. “Her considerable knowledge and experience in the area of industrial relations will continue to benefit the Board.”
Ms. MacPherson has been the Vice-Chairperson of the CIRB since 2007 and previously served in the same role on the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board from 2000–06. Ms. MacPherson also has 25 years of experience as a conciliation officer, mediator and arbitrator.
The CIRB is an independent, representational, quasi‑judicial tribunal responsible for the interpretation and administration of Part I (Industrial Relations) and certain provisions of Part II (Occupational Health and Safety) of the Canada Labour Code. The Board’s expertise and composition allow it to deal effectively with the complexities of labour relations issues to determine the underlying causes of disputes and to facilitate agreement among the parties.
