Swift Current, Saskatchewan
Today, David Anderson, Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills—Grasslands, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Swift Current Credit Union i-plex under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“I am proud to see Swift Current benefit from our Government’s support for community infrastructure,” said MP Anderson. “This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity and well-being of the community for years to come.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $75,150 will enhance the services provided by the Credit Union i-plex by helping the City improve the area housing the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame. A new entrance will be added specifically for the Hall of Fame, and a video room, interactive and display areas, display cases, and a wall for inductee plaques will be created in the upgrades. By making these investments in local infrastructure, we are helping families and communities improve valuable community assets.
“We are fortunate to have this significant tourist attraction in our city as an enhancement to our i-plex making it an even more exciting and usable building,” said Swift Current Mayor and Hall of Fame Co-Chair Jerrod Schafer. “The Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame will celebrate the rich history of hockey in our province and we are very fortunate the Federal Government saw fit to support such an important provincial initiative.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
