Sydney, Nova Scotia – The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today issued the following statement to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the 32 members of the 2013 graduating class of the Canadian Coast Guard College.
“Congratulations on completing your courses at the Coast Guard College. Today marks the beginning of your long and satisfying career with the Canadian Coast Guard.
“You have worked hard to have a career with an institution that has a proud history of serving mariners. As future officers of the Coast Guard, you will play an important role in protecting the longest coastline in the world, our ocean resources and, most importantly, lives at sea.
“You are joining the Coast Guard at an exciting time. The Government of Canada has made unprecedented investments in the Coast Guard so you can have new vessels and equipment to perform your duties to the highest level. I am proud to be a part of a government that has invested more in the Canadian Coast Guard than any government in Canadian history.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I wish you every success in the years ahead.”
