Ottawa, Ontario, and Winnipeg, Manitoba (July 16, 2013) - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, and the Honourable Eric Robinson, Manitoba's Minister of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs, issued the following statement today regarding flood evacuees in Manitoba:
It has come to our attention that the owner of the Misty Lake Lodge, which is currently housing evacuees from Manitoba First Nations affected by the 2011 flooding, intends to close the Lodge at the end of August.
We want to reassure evacuees living at the Misty Lake Lodge, or at any of the other hotels accommodating evacuees, that our governments will work together to ensure that evacuees continue to receive appropriate emergency services and supports, including accommodations, food, and other services as required. No one will be without shelter should Misty Lake Lodge close.
Our priority is, and will continue to be, ensuring that the health and safety needs of those First Nations affected by the flooding continue to be met.
