Amqui, Quebec, July 24, 2013 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the Service de recherche et d’expertise en transformation des produits forestiers (SEREX) has been granted financial assistance for the acquisition of technology equipment.
“The Government of Canada was pleased to support SEREX’s acquisition project because it will help revitalize the La Matapédia RCM, whose economy relies on the forest sector,” said Minister Lebel.
SEREX, a college centre for technology transfer affiliated with Rimouski CEGEP, specializes in developing and enhancing the performance of wood products and their derivatives, with a focus on the development of new wood processing concepts, such as the thermal treatment, densification and formulation of new resins.
The acquisitions made by SEREX include wood prototyping equipment, a centrifugal atomizer and a smoke particle analyzer. SEREX will thus be in a better position to help the forest product transformation sector to innovate.
This assistance, granted in the form of a $202,840 non-repayable contribution, was awarded through Canada Economic Development’s Quebec Economic Development Program.
