Leduc, Alberta
Today, James Rajotte, Member of Parliament for Edmonton—Leduc, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for two infrastructure projects in Leduc under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see the City of Leduc's Alexandra Arena and Outdoor Pool benefit from our Government's support for community infrastructure," said MP Rajotte. "These facilities provide excellent programming and recreational opportunities to residents, and our investments here will contribute to the continued prosperity and well-being of our community."
The Harper Government's investment of $243,827 will go towards a number of interior upgrades to the Alexandra Arena, including the installation of two water backflow devices, a fire alarm system, and new flooring. An additional investment of $229,825 enables the City of Leduc to replace the pool's roof and hot water tank, as well as the filtration, heating and drainage system. By making these investments in local infrastructure, we are helping families and communities renew valuable community assets while creating jobs and economic growth.
"On behalf of the City of Leduc, I would like to thank the Honourable Lynne Yelich and MP Rajotte for this tremendous support so this municipality can continue and enhance programming and facilities for all citizens," says Leduc Mayor, Greg Krischke. "This investment bolsters the City's mindset of healthy, active living and demonstrates true success through collaborative efforts."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural, and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
