Lévis – On behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety, attended the recent Twilight Concert at Fort No. 1 of the Lévis Forts National Historic Site. The Minister joined concert goers in giving a spirited tribute to the Korean War Veterans present at the event.
"The Twilight Concert is a lively occasion for us to pay tribute to our Canadian veterans, and in particular this year, to our Veterans of the Korean War," said Minister Fantino. "The audience is here to listen to talented musicians and see a spectacular show; the participation of Canadian Armed Forces members enriches the experience for everyone. Their contribution this evening reminds us of the sacrifices of those who wore the uniform before them."
Organized by the Fondation du Mémorial des militaires in cooperation with various partners, including Veterans Affairs Canada, the Twilight Concert is an annual event for Québec’s South Shore residents. For this year’s concert, various wind ensembles, including the Alouette de Québec, the Harmonie Élite de la Commission scolaire des Navigateurs and the Changing of the Guard Band, all shared the stage. Concert goers got a treat at the end of the evening with a performance of Tchaikovsky’s iconic 1812 Overture, accompanied by four guns of the 6th Field Artillery Regiment and a fireworks display to the music of the Changing of the Guard Band.
"The musicians and the audience of the Twilight Concert have offered a vibrant tribute to Canadian Veterans," said Minister Blaney. "Moreover, it was a great opportunity for all members of the collectivity to gather and honour the local men and women, past and present, who have served within the Canadian Armed Forces."
