August 25, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of H.E. Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives.
“Minister Abdullah was a valued partner to Canada; I met with Foreign Minister Abdullah as recently as June, and always greatly appreciated his openness to engage in the interest of securing a peaceful and prosperous Maldives. He was a dedicated and talented representative of his country.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada and Canadians, I extend my condolences to the people of the Maldives and to the family and friends of the late Foreign Minister Abdullah.”
