Hébertville, Quebec, September 19, 2013 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that the municipality of Hébertville has been granted funding to upgrade the portion of the Route Verte running through its territory.
“Tourism infrastructure contributes to economic diversification, as well as to growth and jobs. That is why our government has chosen to support the improvement of the section of the Route Verte that goes through the municipality of Hébertville,” said Minister Lebel.
The municipality will use the federal funding to carry out improvements along the bicycle path bordering the road connecting Rang du Lac-Vert to Turgeon Street and the one connecting Turgeon Street to the entrance of the village, as well as for paving the sections running parallel to the Saint-Isidore, Saint-André and Lac-Vert range roads. The aim of the project is to improve the quality and safety of the infrastructure and increase the number of cyclists using the bicycle path.
This assistance, granted in the form of a $500,000 non-repayable financial contribution, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
The CIIF has a nationwide budget of a $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
