Beaulac-Garthby, Quebec, September 17, 2013 – Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Member of Parliament for Mégantic-L’Érable, Minister of International Development and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced that the municipality of Beaulac-Garthby has been granted funding for improvements to its marina.
“The Government of Canada believes that modern tourism infrastructure is essential for social and economic development. It is for that reason that we have decided to support this project of the municipality of Beaulac-Garthby,”
said Minister Paradis.
Situated on the banks of Lac Aylmer, the municipality of Beaulac-Garthby is a popular destination for tourists visiting the Chaudière-Appalaches region. The municipality’s main attraction is its marina, where residents and visitors alike are able to enjoy a variety of water activities, including yachting, sailboarding, waterskiing, canoeing and kayaking.
The Beaulac-Garthby marina project involves increasing the number of berths from the existing 23 to 40. The federal funding will be used to acquire floating docks and breakwaters as well as to improve the associated infrastructure. This project is expected to strengthen the marina’s power of attraction and thereby have a positive impact on employment and the local economy.
This assistance, granted in the form of a $266,140 non-repayable financial contribution, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec, where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
