OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will officially launch the new travelling exhibit It’s An Honour! on Monday, September 16, 2013, at 10 a.m., at Henry Wise Wood Senior High School, in Calgary, Alberta.
“This travelling exhibit showcases the stories of great Canadians who have received our highest honours such as the Order of Canada, Decorations for Bravery, and Military Valour Decorations,” the Governor General said. “My hope is that, by learning about our Canadian Honours System and the remarkable stories of recipients, visitors in schools and communities across Canada will be inspired and motivated by what they see.”
During the outdoor event, the Governor General will deliver remarks and take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. His Excellency will then tour the exhibit for the first time with Mr. and Mrs. Don and Ruth Taylor, of the Taylor Family Foundation, who made the travelling exhibit possible. After the ceremony, Their Excellencies will make their way to the school’s library where His Excellency will take part in a question-and-answer period with students.
Following the official launch, the general public may visit the exhibit at this location until September 17, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
