Ottawa, September 18, 2013 - Six RCMP foals have names thanks to the creativity of six young entrants who submitted their suggestions to the "RCMP Name the Foal" contest. The winning names are Keeper, Kenya, Kofi, Kruzer, Karma and Kasper.
The annual contest calls upon young people under 14 years of age to submit names for six foals born at the breeding farm at Pakenham, ON. This year, all names had to begin with the letter "K".
Thousands of name suggestions were received over the course of the two-month contest. The winning names were chosen based on originality and how well they reflected the six foals that may one day be part of the world-famous Musical Ride.
The winning names were submitted by:
- Maria Dzevitski, Heritage Mountain Elementary, Port Moody, British Columbia – Keeper
- Nicolas Folz, Ottawa, Ontario – Kenya
- Charlotte Rodgers, Ottawa, Ontario – Kofi
- Keegan Kristmanson, Swift Current, Saskatchewan – Kruzer
- Avery Inman-Walker, Ottawa, Ontario – Karma
- Alexis L. MacDougall, Antigonish, Nova Scotia – Kasper
All winners will receive an authentic RCMP Stetson, a set of the 2013 Musical Ride Trading Cards, a Horse & Rider Leaf Pin, a colour photo of the foal they named, and a certificate signed by the Commissioner of the RCMP.
