Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement following the outcome of the Australian federal election:
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I am pleased to offer my sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister-elect Tony Abbott on his party’s victory in today’s election in Australia.
“As robust Pacific trading nations linked by a shared Commonwealth heritage, Canada and Australia enjoy strong bilateral relations.
“I look forward to working with Mr. Abbott and his government on further advancing our strong economic, social and political ties. Closer bilateral cooperation will promote the creation of jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in both countries, benefitting all of our citizens.”
