Gatineau, Quebec, 24 September 2013 — The sunken Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) helicopter has been located by ArcticNet's Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) in the Arctic. A team consisting of the CCG, ArcticNet and the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is working to recover it.
The ice and weather conditions will continue to present a significant challenge to the recovery operation. While the aim is to recover the helicopter as quickly as possible, ensuring the safety of the personnel and vessels involved in this operations is a first priority.
We will provide a more detailed update on the recovery efforts when more information becomes available. The TSB would like to thank the CCG and ArcticNet for their assistance. The TSB investigation is ongoing.
The TSB is an independent agency that advances transportation safety by investigating occurrences in the marine, pipeline, rail and air modes of transportation. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
