Subscribers to the Rural Municipality of Kindersley Rural Water Utility will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to extend a regional water pipeline to supply treated drinking water to rural residents. Agriculture Minister and Member of Parliament for Battlefords-Lloydminster Gerry Ritz, and Minister of the Economy Bill Boyd, MLA for Kindersley, were joined by Councillor Allan Melnyk, Rural Municipality (RM) of Kindersley to announce a regional water pipeline project.

We are proud to have partnered with the Province of Saskatchewan and the RM of Kindersley in providing reliable infrastructure for local residents.

“The Government of Saskatchewan understands how important infrastructure investments with multiple levels of government are to meeting the challenges of growth and improving the quality of life,
” said Boyd, on behalf of Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter.
“We currently have 164 subscribers on our Phase 1 pipeline using approximately eight million gallons of potable water annually,
” said Melnyk, Chairman of the RM of Kindersley Water Utility Board. “This pipeline covers seven of the 10 divisions in the RM. In the past year, a $20 million upgrade to the town’s water treatment plant and twinning 17 km of pipeline increased water volume to accommodate 70 more subscribers on our Phase II project. We are most thankful for today’s funding announcement to complete this Phase II project.
”
The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are each investing up to $1.7 million in the project, while the RM will contribute the balance of the total eligible project costs of more than $5 million.
The more than 190 km of main water pipeline will serve an area of more than 900 square kilometres north, south and west of Kindersley. The source of the potable water will be from the Town of Kindersley. Construction is expected to begin in 2014. The project is conditionally approved pending an environmental review.
Under the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund, the Government of Canada has invested in hundreds of important projects across the West with matching contributions from the western provinces. Thousands of Saskatchewan residents are now enjoying the benefits of this significant investment to Canada and Saskatchewan’s public infrastructure. Since 2007, the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have invested in almost 150 projects for a shared total investment of $210 million under BCF-CC.
