Today, Kelly Block, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $50,150 in federal funding for the Riverside Badminton and Tennis Club under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities,” said Parliamentary Secretary Block. “By improving facilities such as this, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.”
Users of the Riverside Badminton and Tennis Club will benefit from the renovations. Improvements include repairs to the tennis courts and upgrades to the lighting on both the badminton and tennis courts. Other upgrades include roof repairs, painting, carpet replacement, and new window treatments as well as enhanced exterior lighting and security systems.
“We are very grateful for this opportunity to improve our facilities which will make our club more accessible and appealing,” said Michelle Alting-Mees, Manager at Riverside Badminton and Tennis Club, on behalf of its membership and the community. “As hosts of the Saskatoon Futures, an International Tennis Federation sanctioned international tournament, we have designed these improvements to further cement our club and community as an internationally attractive tourism destination. Our goal is that this funding will both increase club revenues as well as lead to more healthy and active community members.”
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
