Prime Minister Stephen Harper met today with Tony Abbott, Prime Minister of Australia, on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Bali, Indonesia. It was their first meeting since Prime Minister Abbott's recent election victory.
The leaders discussed how to further strengthen the close and productive bilateral relations that the two countries share.
They also exchanged views on the global economy and the continued focus on growth, job creation and prosperity. In this regard, they touched on the APEC Leaders' Meeting agenda and the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. The two leaders also shared ideas regarding the focus of the 2014 G-20 Summit, which Australia will chair.
The meeting also briefly touched on international security and the continuing priority of focus on migrant smuggling.
