Panelists will discuss the six future challenge areas identified through SSHRC’s Imagining Canada’s Future initiative at the the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) on Thursday, October 17.
Co-hosted by Yves Mauffette, vice-president, Research at UQAM, and Marie-Andrée Roy, vice-dean, Research, faculté des sciences humaines and SSHRC Leader, the event will feature presentations by:
- Gisèle Yasmeen, senior advisor to the SSHRC president and former SSHRC vice-president, Research;
- Philippe Allard, director of scientific activities, ACFAS;
- Marie-Andrée Roy, vice-dean, Research, faculté des sciences humaines and SSHRC Leader; and
- Thérèse De Groote, senior policy advisor, SSHRC.
Over the past two years, SSHRC conducted a cross-Canada and international consultation process, reaching out to more than 13,000 subject matter experts, members of the academic research community, and public and private sector leaders, to seek their insight.
The goal of Imagining Canada’s Future was to identify future challenge areas for Canada in an evolving global context that are likely to emerge in five, 10 and 20 years and to which the social sciences and humanities research community could contribute its knowledge, talent and expertise.
The result was the selection of SSHRC’s six future challenge areas. They represent lenses through which SSHRC—in collaboration with the Canadian social sciences and humanities research community—feels it can and should make a difference in the coming years.
The panel discussion will take place Thursday, October 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Salon Orange, Q-2210, forth floor, Centre Pierre-Péladeau, 300 Blvd. De Maisonneuve East, Montréal.
