TÉMISCAMING, Quebec, November 15, 2013 – Today, Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing—Timiskaming, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, announced the completion of the $802,000 Quebec Dam Rehabilitation Project at the Timiskaming Dam Complex.

said Minister Finley. “We are committed to ensuring that our bridges, dams and highways remain safe and reliable for the thousands of Canadians they serve daily.”
This investment is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, through which the Government of Canada is investing approximately $250 million in PWGSC-owned infrastructure projects across the country, for a total of $320 million in funding for these assets.
“As the local member of Parliament, I am delighted to announce the completion of the Quebec Dam Rehabilitation Project. This is great news for residents of this region as the Dam plays a vital role in linking the communities and industries located on both sides of the Ottawa River,”
said MP Aspin.
The rehabilitation work on the Quebec Dam included the installation of new steel supports under the existing concrete slab and various reinforcements where they were required. This ensured the dam is compliant with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and further improved its reliability so that the deck can continue to carry normal highway traffic. The rehabilitation project was completed on time and on budget.
The Timiskaming Dam Complex is located approximately 65 kilometres northeast of North Bay, Ontario, on the border between Quebec and Ontario. It includes two structurally independent dams, the Ontario dam and the Quebec dam, which are located on opposite sides of Long Sault Island in the Ottawa River.
