BELLEVILLE, Ontario, November 18, 2013 – Daryl Kramp, Member of Parliament for Prince Edward‒Hastings, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, and of the Honourable Robert Nicholson, Member of Parliament for Niagara Falls and Minister of National Defence, today announced the awarding of a contract to HDT Expeditionary Systems Ltd., of Belleville, Ontario, to provide deployable climate-controlled shelter systems to the Canadian Armed Forces.
Our Government is committed to military spending that both benefits the Canadian Armed Forces and supports the Canadian economy,” said Mr. Kramp. “This contract award will contribute to the economy in the Belleville area by creating and maintaining 18 positions at the company’s facility.
Under this contract, valued at approximately $3.5 million, the company will provide 38 shelters and linking connectors for the shelters. Each shelter must be easy to transport and assemble and have an independent heating, cooling and lighting system.
The work on the lighting, heating and electric receptacles and panels, and on transit cases for the shelters, will be subcontracted by HDT Expeditionary Systems Ltd. to other Ontario companies. This subcontracted work is expected to create and maintain 23 jobs.

Canadian Armed Forces personnel must work in a variety of climates at home and abroad. These deployable shelter systems will provide them with living spaces and spaces for medical treatment, workshops and command operations.
Equipment such as this plays an essential part in Canadian Armed Forces operations and helps contribute to the health and safety of our troops both at home and abroad,” said Minister Nicholson. “This announcement supports our commitment to ensuring our personnel have the equipment they need to do the work we ask of them effectively and efficiently.
Once completed, the shelter systems will be sent to Canadian Armed Forces bases in Petawawa and Kingston in Ontario.
