Ottawa, Ontario – The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, delivered remarks at the National Harbour Authority Advisory Committee’s Annual Meeting in celebration of the Harbour Authority Program’s 25th anniversary.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to thank Harbour Authorities for their excellent work over the past 25 years,” said Minister Shea. “The Harbour Authority Program and its many dedicated volunteers have made a significant contribution to Canada’s small craft harbours. With your efforts and the projects at federal small craft harbours, local economies benefit, jobs are created, and we contribute to economic growth in coastal communities.”
Harbour Authorities are responsible for managing, operating and maintaining harbours across Canada. They oversee day-to-day operations and undertake projects to ensure that harbours are in safe and operational condition.
The National Harbour Authority Advisory Committee is a national advisory body that consists of fifteen Harbour Authority representatives. The annual meeting brought together these Harbour Authority representatives to provide advice on managing Canada’s small craft harbours and represent the views of local Harbour Authorities on matters of national interest.
