Ottawa—Children are contributing to our nation in real and meaningful ways. I have seen this throughout my travels; children willing and able to stand up to societal challenges, to help those in need, and to make this a better country.
Each year, our country marks National Child Day in Canada, celebrating the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We have a responsibility, not only to raise our children with the values and ideals of a conscientious citizen, but also to provide them with a society in which they can flourish. To do any less would be a failure on our part.
On this occasion, I hope that we can all find a way to make this a stronger, more just nation, where children can safely and actively participate in the shaping of Canada.
