Ottawa, November 20, 2013—The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry, today issued the following statement recognizing 21 outstanding teachers and early childhood educators who received the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence and Excellence in Early Childhood Education:
"The teachers and educators receiving this award are the very best in their field. Every day, their leadership and passion for teaching brings innovation to the classroom and inspires children to learn. Teachers and child care providers are more than educators; they are role models, mentors and coaches. It is their enthusiasm and dedication that help children to succeed.
"This year, the events marking the Prime Minister's Awards coincide with National Child Day, a day we recognize in celebration of children's rights, including the right to education. I invite all Canadians to take a moment to reflect on the great teachers who have provided the best possible environment for learning and who have been a positive influence on their students and in their communities.
"This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Prime Minister's Awards for educators. Over the past two decades, hundreds of educators have been recognized across Canada for their meaningful, positive influence on children's education. I am pleased to recognize the outstanding achievements of these 21 professionals who have chosen to go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of students and contribute to shaping Canada's future."
