Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the recent election in Nunavut and the selection of Peter Taptuna as Premier of the territory:
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my congratulations to Peter Taptuna, the third Premier of Nunavut to be chosen to lead the territory.
“I look forward to working with Premier Taptuna to address the unique challenges and opportunities of Canada’s largest and newest territory. I also look forward to working together with a view to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity across the territory.
“I would like to congratulate outgoing Premier Eva Aariak for her many accomplishments as Premier and wish her well in all future endeavours.”
