January 29, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:
“Seventy years ago today, Canada opened a diplomatic mission in Mexico City, and I am proud to say that relations continue to be warm, deep and enduring.
“The year 2014 is a hallmark year in Canada-Mexico relations as we jointly celebrate many key anniversaries: 70 years of diplomatic relations, 40 years of the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program, 20 years of the North American Free Trade Agreement and 10 years of the Canada-Mexico Partnership, a mechanism for public-private sector cooperation.
“To mark these milestones, an impressive number of political, trade, cultural and academic events are being planned in Canada and Mexico.
“Mexico is a trusted and long-term partner of choice for Canada in education, business and innovation, and is a reliable supporter of regional and global solutions. It is also a destination of choice for the close to 2 million Canadians who visit Mexico every year.”
