An environmentally-friendly process of treating organic waste is one step closer to becoming a reality thanks to a partnership between the governments of Canada and Québec. Today, Minister Lebel confirmed the Government of Canada's support for the construction of the Centre de biométhanisation de l'agglomération de Québec.
This new facility will treat municipal wastewater sludge in addition to organic food waste from residential, industrial, commercial and institutional sectors, and produce biogas that will be used as an energy source; notably for heating purposes.
Site preparation is scheduled to begin in August 2015, with construction expected to be completed by May 2017.
