City reduces dependency on landfills thanks to federal/territorial support

The governments of Canada, Yukon and the City of Whitehorse gathered today to celebrate the opening of the newly upgraded Whitehorse Compost Facility as well as the arrival of essential new composting equipment.
The solid waste facility improvements consisted of clearing and fencing the building site, creating an area for equipment storage and maintenance, as well as a space for compost bagging. New composting equipment, including an industrial screen, a wheeled loader and vertical auger mixer will help accelerate the composting process and increase the overall efficiency of the facility. The new equipment also allows the facility to include industrial and commercial composting services in addition to residential services. These upgrades will contribute to environmental sustainability in Whitehorse by diverting solid waste away from landfills.
