Government of Canada Conducting a National Consultation to Renew Federal Strategy

Greg Rickford, Minister of State for Science and Technology (S&T), announced the launch of a consultation that will seek input from Canadians on a new federal Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy. As part of the approach to updating the 2007 S&T Strategy, the government has released a discussion paper that solicits the public's ideas and recommendations on how best to shape federal policy on science, technology and innovation.

Industry Canada is accepting written submissions in response to the questions posed in the consultation paper, which, along with submission guidelines, can be found at www.ic.gc.ca/science-tech-innovation-consultation. Interested parties are invited to provide a submission before February 7, 2014.
In the October 2013 Speech from the Throne, the government announced that it would release an updated Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy and committed to continue targeted investments in science and innovation.
Recent achievements have transformed the National Research Council, doubled the investment in the Industrial Research Assistance Program, supported research collaborations through the federal granting councils and created the new Venture Capital Action Plan.
The government will release its updated strategy following consideration and careful review of input received during the consultation period.
