Vancouver-Based Company Creates Green Solutions for Dust Control, Cooling Water and Wastewater Treatment to Improve the Lives of all Canadians

January 09, 2014 — Vancouver, British Columbia

The Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of State (Science and Technology), accompanied by Ms. Wai Young, Member of Parliament for Vancouver South, today toured IPAC Chemicals Ltd. laboratories in Vancouver. IPAC Chemicals is receiving technical advisory services and funding of up to $145,000 from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP). Support will facilitate the development of new high-efficiency and environmentally-friendly chemicals to treat cooling tower water, to better protect the health of Canadians.

IPAC Chemicals provides customized, engineered solutions for water treatment, dust control, wastewater, and specialized industrial equipment worldwide. This financial support is in addition to past contributions totaling $350,940 that IPAC Chemicals has received since 2008 through NRC-IRAP and its Digital Technology Adoption Pilot Program to improve productivity, develop and implement a web based intranet and discover other green technologies, for the benefit of not only Canadians, but for people around the world.

Founded in 1987, IPAC offers a number of proprietary water treatment formulations to prevent corrosion, scale, deposit and biological fouling in steam boilers, chillers, open recirculating cooling water systems, and other industrial process equipment.
Power Chemicals (IPAC`s sister company) provides engineered process chemical solutions for hard rock mining, pulp & paper, coal mines and seaport terminals.
With a focus on getting more ideas to market, the National Research Council of Canada works with industry to bridge technology gaps, helping build a more innovative Canadian economy that reflects today’s global realities.
In 2012-2013 NRC-IRAP worked with over 11,000 SMEs, with some 8,000 firms benefiting from expert advisory services and about 3,000 firms receiving some form of financial assistance.
The Government of Canada announced a new Concierge Service on December 2, a personalized service to assist SMEs in navigating available R&D resources and support programs, and selecting the right options to meet their needs. The Service is delivered by NRC-IRAP in collaboration with over 40 federal and provincial partners.
