PEI Firefighters' Association Upgrading Fire School Facility

Organization receives funding to undertake training facility upgrades to better train Prince Edward Island first responders and serve local communities.

January 23, 2014 - Charlottetown, PEI

Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea and PEI Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley were in Charlottetown today to announce a combined investment of $50,500 for the PEI Firefighters’ Association to enhance the Fire School facility.

The PEI Firefighters’ Association have undertaken upgrades to their warehouse training facility to ensure Island firefighters are better trained and more equipped to serve communities across Prince Edward Island.

The Government of Canada invested a total of $30,500 in this project through their Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The Government of Prince Edward Island, through the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development, and their Island Community Fund, invested $20,000 towards the upgrades and the PEI Firefighters’ Association made a financial contribution of $15,000.
The PEI Firefighters’ Association undertook upgrades to the warehouse as well as constructed a secured room to properly store expensive training equipment in the facility.
With the completion of these enhancements, the PEI Firefighters’ Association now has the capability to offer additional training sessions throughout the winter months. This increased programming will ensure better safety for first responders and Prince Edward Island residents as well as increase the Association’s revenues.
