Amman, Jordan 23 January 2014
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that Canada will provide continued support for education to help Jordan cope with the influx of child refugees from Syria. The announcement was made in Amman, Jordan, during the Prime Minister’s first official visit to the Middle East, from January 18-25, 2014.
As a result of the influx of child refugees from Syria, the school system in Jordan is under increased pressure to deliver basic education services to more children than ever before. This is putting a strain on the education system in recipient local communities.
Today’s announcement will strengthen the quality of basic education in Jordan by enabling the Ministry of Education to implement school improvements with a greater degree of responsibility and accountability.
