The Lunenburg Board of Trade is leading a project to ensure that visitors to the Old Town UNESCO World Heritage site will be able to easily discover more about the area's unique history. ACOA Minister Rob Moore and Parliamentary Secretary Gerald Keddy today announced Government of Canada support at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic located on the community's iconic commercial waterfront.
Project elements include interpretative and directional signage to highlight key Old Town features and attractions, a visitor information kiosk located in a covered gazebo for weather protection, augmented street lighting—and strategically-placed park benches, bike racks, drinking fountains, waste/recycling stations, and electrical outlets for special events. This initiative will assist the community in capitalizing on its UNESCO World Heritage designation and further strengthen its status as a first-class tourist destination renowned for preserving many of the physical characteristics of a 19th century colonial seafaring port.
