February 7, 2014 – Shawinigan, Quebec – Infrastructure Canada
The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, and the Honourable Sylvain Gaudreault, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, Minister of Transport and Member of the National Assembly for Jonquière are pleased to announce that Shawinigan residents will soon benefit from significant upgrades and improvements to the City's water treatment system, thanks to investments from the governments of Canada and Quebec.
This project involves the construction of two drinking water treatment facilities: one with a water intake from lac à la Pêche and the other with an intake from lac des Piles. In addition, work will include the installation of an eight-kilometre water distribution system through the rang Saint-Mathieu, the expansion of Grand-Mère's drinking water reservoir and the rehabilitation of the chlorination system of the des Hêtres drinking water reservoir.
Construction of these two new facilities is scheduled to begin in September 2014 and is expected to be completed by July 2017.
