Harper Government Investment in Recreation Centre Benefits Edmonton Seniors

February 19, 2014 - Edmonton, Alberta - Western Economic Diversification Canada

Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament for Edmonton East, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Northgate Lions Seniors Recreation Centre under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. The Fund supports projects that improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Quick Facts

The Northgate Lions Seniors Recreation Centre received over $85,000 in federal funding.
This investment supported renovations to the recreation centre’s common areas, program rooms and storage facilities.
Upgrades have enhanced the services provided to local seniors and community groups, and will support increased use of the facility for years to come.
