February 1, 2014 Swift Current, Saskatchewan Employment and Social Development Canada
The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister for Multiculturalism, today joined David Anderson, Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills–Grasslands, for a tour of REM Enterprises in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Since incorporation in 1966, REM Enterprises Inc. remains a family owned and operated business focused on the design, manufacture and marketing of products for agricultural and industrial applications. REM Enterprises works with manufacturers to custom-design products to improve the productivity and competitiveness of those manufacturers. Like many employers across Canada, finding qualified employees to fill available jobs is a major challenge facing REM Enterprises.
During the tour, Minister Kenney outlined the steps required to ensure that Canadians have the skills they need to fill jobs, including more employer-led training through programs like the Canada Job Grant, reforms to Canada’s apprenticeship systems, encouraging more Canadians to enter the skilled trades, better recognition of foreign credentials, improved labour mobility and better labour market information.
