Minister of Justice Peter MacKay, accompanied by Member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice Robert Goguen, today visited the YWCA of Moncton, and announced the organization has received funding from the Department of Justice Canada to host an event during National Victims of Crime Awareness Week (Victims Week), to be held from April 6-12, 2014.
The mission of the YWCA of Moncton is to support and empower women and their families through advocacy and integrated services that foster independence, wellness, and equity for all. The organization provides a range of services and programs, including violence prevention programs and supportive housing programs.
The organization has received funding of $6,336 to host a one-day conference in support of Victims Week for the YWCA's Young Women's Collective and Girls' Council, focused on victims of sexual assaults. The conference will include workshops and guest speakers, and is designed to increase the awareness, skills, and commitment from those in attendance, to take action.
