Prime Minister Stephen Harper recently released details of the $14B New Building Canada Fund, a key component of the $53 billion New Building Canada Plan.
Now that the details on the New Building Canada Fund have been announced, the Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs will continue to work with provinces, territories, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and other stakeholders to seek input on outstanding program details. This work will inform development of the New Building Canada Fund in areas such as the application process, P3 screening requirements, and the delivery of the Small Communities Fund.
This engagement is a continuation of the work we started with partners and stakeholders in 2012, when Infrastructure Canada launched cross-country consultations to gather input on a long-term infrastructure plan. Over the course of 14 roundtable discussions with partners and stakeholders, the Government of Canada listened to ideas for a new plan.
The Government of Canada remains committed to working with partners and stakeholders on the best way to support our country's national, regional and local objectives through infrastructure investments. Ongoing engagement has resulted in programs that have made Canada a better place in which to work and live. Since 2006, Canada as a whole has invested record amounts in public infrastructure.
We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition from the 2007 Building Canada Plan to the New Building Canada Plan and will be in a position to accept proposals under the new Plan by March 31, 2014.
