PM hosts event in honour of His Highness the Aga Khan’s official visit to Canada
Announces support - in partnership with Aga Khan Foundation Canada - to help improve human development outcomes in Africa and Asia

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today hosted an event at Massey Hall in Toronto in honour of His Highness the Aga Khan’s official visit to Canada from February 27 to 28. The event was attended by a range of stakeholders, including members of the Ismaili community. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Jason Kenney, Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister for Multiculturalism, Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and Senator Salma Ataullahjan.
During the event, the Prime Minister and His Highness the Aga Khan announced significant support for the Partnership for Advancing Human Development in Africa and Asia. This joint initiative promotes health, education, and governance in Africa and Asia, and raises Canadian awareness and involvement in international development.
The joint initiative, which is being undertaken by the Government of Canada and Aga Khan Foundation Canada, focuses on strengthening health systems in Central Asia, strengthening pre-primary and primary education systems in Eastern Africa, and enhancing the capacity of civil society organizations in both Africa and Asia. It also helps Canadians become more aware of and involved in international development through public engagement and professional learning activities.
Canadian support for this joint initiative is being made through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development’s Partnerships for Development Innovation program.
