PM participates in 2014 Québec Carnaval

February 6, 2014 – Québec, Quebec – Canada Economic Development

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today participated in the Québec Winter Carnaval, where he met with Carnaval volunteers and its renowned mascot, the Bonhomme Carnaval. He was joined by Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, and Régis Labeaume, Mayor of Québec City.

Established in 1955, the Carnaval features a number of traditional winter activities including snow sculpting, ice canoe races and dogsled rides. These events, coupled with Quebec’s remarkable heritage, architecture and warmth, is a tremendous draw for tourists.
The Government of Canada is committed to supporting marquee events across the country that promote culture and tourism. We provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in support for this year’s Carnaval, through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program, and the Quebec Economic Development Program.
