Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse on winning the gold medal in the women’s two man bobsleigh event at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi:
“The dedication and teamwork of Ms. Humphries and Ms. Moyse have culminated today in a well-deserved gold medal. The entire country was delighted to see the team defend their title and we are proud to share in this superb achievement.”
Kaillie Humphries was born in Calgary, Alberta, where she currently resides. This is her second Olympic medal and third Olympic Games, having won gold in women’s two man bobsleigh at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics with brakeman Heather Moyse. Ms. Humphries also travelled to the 2006 Turin Olympics as an alternate. She won gold at the FIBT World Championships in 2012 and 2013, and is the 2011 World bronze medallist with current teammate Heather Moyse.
Heather Moyse was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, and currently resides in Toronto, Ontario. This is her second Olympic medal and third Olympic Games, having won gold in women’s two man bobsleigh at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics with pilot Kaillie Humphries. She also competed in the 2006 Turin Olympics, placing fourth. She is a 2011 World bronze medallist with current teammate Kaillie Humphries.
