Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating Patrick Chan on winning a silver medal in the men’s figure skating event at the Olympic Winter Games:
“I would like to congratulate Patrick Chan for his superb achievement today in the men’s figure skating event in Sochi. Canadians watched as you competed and our hearts filled with pride when you won a place on the Olympic podium.
“This silver medal is a fitting reward for years of hard work and perseverance.”
Patrick Chan was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and currently resides in Toronto, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan. This is his second Olympic Games, having competed in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. This is Mr. Chan’s first individual Olympic medal and his second at the Sochi Games. He is a three-time ISU World Champion (2011-13), two-time World silver medalist (2009-10), two-time Four Continents Champion (2009, 2012), two-time Grand Prix Final Champion (2010, 2011) and seven-time Canadian Champion (2008-14).
